Sabine will represent women who lived in Crystal Palace in the 1800s and to the present day through portraiture. Sabine is a wonderful model with whom I have decided to collaborate on my first project for her professional, natural and calm persona. This series of portraits aim to provide the central theme for which '100 voices' will act as a subsidiary. An extended project will consist of portraits, interviews and images of the local community in and around the Crystal Palace Triangle, The Heritage Lottery Funded Inspired by the Subway project, local events, the organisers and members of the community will all be considered as part of this extensive project concept in documenting my community.
My principal model for the project demonstrates qualities that resonate with both a present and a nostalgic representation of women in community. I feel that such characteristics are ideal for the portrayal, and cross-referencing of women from 1800s Crystal Palace.
This photograph takes it's inspiration from a composite of two of the 1800s photographer Lady Harwarden's self-portraits using the 'Mise en abyme' theme to portray social isolation in women.
